Mark Alcock pledges transparency on expenses11.28.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 10th May 2009
As the row over MP's expenses shows no signs of going away, Oldham West & Royton Parliamentary spokesperson Mark Alcock has pledged to be totally open and transparent about his expenses if elected to represent the people of Oldham West & Royton including Chadderton. Mark has said how appalled he is at some of the things MP's have been claiming for, from duck islands to having chairs refurbished to £400 a month on food without receipts said: "Many local residents have said how angry they are about these damaging revelations. I have been appalled at the way some MP's have squeezed every penny out of the expenses system, whilst at the same time residents in their constituencies are struggling to buy food and heat their homes". "If elected, I pledge to publish any expenses that I claim for on my website every month. I will not claim to furnish any accommodation that I rent in London ( I will not be buying a property at the tax payers expense). I will not be blacking anything out apart, from my bank details. I will not be claiming for food". If elected I will not be moving to London and just visiting Oldham West & Royton for my surgeries, I live here now and will continue to live here with my family around me. "I agree with Nick Clegg that the whole system is in disrepute and we need to radically change things, and get a totally new system in place. People must be able to trust their elected representatives."
